Résumé
Distribution
There are services that will “blast” your résumé
via the Internet to hundreds or thousands of recruiters and
employers at a time. Since they are not sending your résumé
in response to an advertised opening, the response will be
similar to direct mail campaigns—3 percent to 5 percent
at the most. All of these résumé distribution
services will charge you a fee.
To increase the effectiveness of this type of campaign, make
sure that the service targets companies based on your geographic
preferences, industry classification, and/or preferred job
title. Peter Weddle (www.weddles.com) recommends going to
a résumé distribution service’s Web site
and clicking the “For Recruiters” button and not
the “For Applicants” button. If a recruiter is
allowed to complete a profile of the kinds of résumés
he or she is looking for, then the odds are better that yours
will hit the right target. You don’t want to use a distribution
service that doesn’t target your industry, geographical
preferences, or areas of specialty.
